Enjoying the process

I'm not sure why but for the longest time I've automatically had a grand vision when starting a new hobby or endeavor. For example if I started working on a game, I'm already hoping it could be popular enough to make more (financially or otherwise). If I'm making a website, "oh this will be the one that blows up", playing a new game "oh I can't wait to be the top rank in this" - etc, you get the idea.

It might be related to being ADHD or something, I'm not sure. But I'm working on getting over it in favor of just doing things because I enjoy them and letting that take me wherever. Nothing burns me out more than putting a ton of effort into something that doesn't result in the outcome I want (or thought I wanted.)

And it's sneaky! Even with something like this site where I'm trying to be really intentional and not worry about it, I can't help looking at the view counter and seeing how much it's moved. Number go up good, right? I've always gotta watch out for the try hard mindset taking over.

I read this story/quote from Kurt Vonnegut a while back and it has stuck with me. I think it's really beautiful and captures how I want to do things going forward: Kurt Vonnegut anecdote Kurt Vonnegut anecdote part 2 Kurt Vonnegut anecdote part 3
